BEYOND MUSICFEST
Youth Jazz Canada is pleased to announce that the 2020 HNYJC will come together again during the summer to rehearse, perform and record as part of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival and the Summer Jazz Workshop for Youth. In both cases members will be on full scholarship covering travel, accommodation and registration fees where applicable.
TD TORONTO JAZZ FESTIVAL, June 18 – 28th
Arriving in Toronto June 19th, the HNYJC will begin rehearsals for the TD Toronto Jazz Festival Youth Jazz Showcase, participating in workshops and performances with the Berklee Global Jazz Institute. The group will also present a feature performance at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival. While travel and accommodation are covered through the project, participants are responsible for their own food and personal expenses. The group will also perform at a number of local venues outside of the festival during their three-week stay in Toronto.
SUMMER JAZZ WORKSHOP FOR YOUTH, June 29 – July 12th
The HNYJC will also be participating in the Youth Jazz Canada Summer Workshop, receiving full tuition scholarship and accommodation for out of town participants. The ensemble will have the opportunity to work with a number of different artists over the two weeks, including public performances with each week’s Artist-in-Residence. In addition to daily rehearsals, the ensemble will take part in all classes, workshops, lectures and master classes offered through the Summer Jazz Workshop. The whole HNYJC experience will culminate with a performance at the Gala Concert on Friday, July 10th and a recording session on July 12th in Humber College’s state-of-the-art recording studio. Each member of the ensemble will receive an mp3 of the recording session.
