Audition Procedure

MusicFest Canada will not normally accept applicants under the age of 15 as of May 1 in the year of the Festival.  Parents of applicants younger than 15 as of May 1st may be asked to make special arrangements for accommodations, travel and supervision.

Beyond MusicFest

Youth Jazz Canada is pleased to announce that the 2018 NYJC will come together again during the summer to rehearse, perform and record as part of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival and the Summer Jazz Workshop for Youth.  In both cases members will be on full scholarship covering travel, accommodation and registration fees where applicable.

TD Toronto Jazz Festival, June 22 – July 1st

Arriving in Toronto June 24th, he NYJC will begin rehearsals for the TD Toronto Jazz Festival Youth Jazz Showcase, participating in workshops and performances with the Berklee Global Jazz Institute.  The group will also present a feature performance at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival.  Travel and accommodation provided, participants are responsible for their own food and personal expenses.

Summer Jazz Workshop for Youth, July 2 – 15th

The NYJC will also be participating in the Youth Jazz Canada Summer Workshop receiving full tuition scholarships and accommodation for out of town participants.

2018 Summer Jazz Workshop for Youth


  • All repertoire must be accompanied (including bass and auxiliary percussion – vibes etc) by a minimum of guitar and/or piano, with the exception of drumset, which should be unaccompanied
  • Record your audition (audio only) in a single take, if possible. See directions below.
  • Upload the recording to the website on or before March 25, 2018.

Use recording equipment that will give a clear and accurate recording of your playing.

  1. Do NOT state your name or school.
  2. Record the material in the order given above in a single take.
  3. Submit an audio recording, NOT a video recording.
  4. Use mp3 format only. Limit file size to 10 MB. If it is larger, split it and send several smaller files.

  2. Select “Login” found on the top navigation bar
  3. Enter your e-mail address and password.  If you do not have one, follow the directions to obtain one.
  4. Complete and/or edit your Registration Form. Make sure you complete all fields
  5. Click on the “Save” button. You can access this form any time to add or change information.

  • Le téléchargement sur le site doit être complété le ou avant le 25 de mars 2018

  1. Utiliser de l’équipement d’enregistrement qui produira une trame sonore de votre interprétation musical avec clarté et exactitude.
  2. Ne pas mentionner pas le nom de votre école
  3. Enregistrer tout le matériel mentionné ci-haut, en un seul essai.
  4. Soumettre une trame audio, non vidéo.
  5. Utiliser le format mp3 seulement, d’une limite d’espace de 10 Mo. Si plus gros que 10Mo, diviser en plusieurs fichiers plus petits.

  • Inclure votre adresse de courriel et mot de passe.
  • Compléter votre formulaire d’inscription. S’assurer de compléter toutes les sections.
  • Cliquer sur le lien « Save ». Vous pouvez, en tout temps accéder à votre information pour y apporter des changements.
